Kim "Bubba" Sattler, 67, of Woodstock, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025. Known affectionately as Dad, Grampa, and "Bubba" to his loved ones, Kim will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, clever sense of humor, and warm-hearted nature that touched all who knew him.
Born on October 11, 1958, in Pusan, South Korea, Kim was the beloved son of Cha Won Sattler and the late Walter W. Sattler (1LT US Army - Korean War). He grew up in Woodstock, where he graduated with the class of 1976 from Woodstock High School. Soon after, Kim proudly served his country for a short term as a member of the United States Army, where his dedication and skill reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others and doing his best in every endeavor. He was honorably discharged in 1978. His love of learning and curiosity about how things worked led him to earn an Associate's Degree in Science and a certificate in electronics engineering technology from McHenry County College.
Kim's career path and personal interests intertwined seamlessly - his fascination with mechanics, design, and technology was more than a hobby; it was a core part of his identity. He was known throughout the community and among his friends for his undeniable passion for classic Volkswagen cars and kit cars. Later in life, through his son Jeremy's enthusiasm, he developed a deep appreciation for Hondas and Japanese import vehicles. Whether he was under the hood or cheering from the stands at the track or drag strip, Kim's curiosity and energy were boundless. He was also a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers, never missing an opportunity to celebrate a big win - or offer a good-natured laugh after a tough loss.
One of Kim's proudest moments came in 2009 when he became a grandfather to Jeremy's son Aiden - a role he cherished deeply and embraced with the same warmth, humor, and care that defined his life.
Kim is survived by his loving mother, Cha Won Sattler; his sister, Cha Ron Sattler-LeBlanc (Alain); his devoted son, Jeremy R. Sattler (Mariah), and partner Dorothy Heroux and sons (Dion & Donny). He was preceded in death by his father, Walter W. Sattler.
Visitation and remembrance for Kim will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, with military honors at 6:00 PM, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
As Kim often reminded those close to him: *Follow your dreams, no matter where they take you; the people that are important in your life will follow you on your way.*
