

Linda Kay Thompson McCutcheon, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at White Oaks Memory Care in McHenry, IL, surrounded by family. A woman of great warmth and character, Linda lived a life defined by her devotion to wonderful relationships with family and friends.
Born on May 24, 1939, in Astoria, Oregon, Linda was the daughter of Marie (Hansen) and Troyer Thompson. She grew up in the scenic coastal town of Astoria, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for her community and received numerous accolades including being elected Governor of Girls State in 1957. Seeking to make a difference in the lives of others, she attended Oregon State University, where she majored in Education.
Linda's greatest joy was her family. She met the love of her life, Rob McCutcheon, at Oregon State in 1959 and they were married in 1961. For 65 years, they built together an enduring partnership and a home filled with laughter and love. As a mother and grandmother, she was a constant source of support, celebrating every milestone with pride.
Linda’s career as an educator spanned several states, touching the lives of countless students. She began her teaching career in Alabama, then Seattle, and Illinois. For many years, she was a dedicated presence at Crystal Lake South High School. She was known for the genuine care she showed to her students and colleagues, her dynamic teaching style, and her ability to make learning fun.
Linda was active in First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, where over the years she helped establish the Stephen Ministry program, The Accessibility Task Force, and several others. She was also a devoted Hospice Volunteer. She loved planning events and hosting gatherings for family and friends. She was a great cook and also greatly enjoyed traveling. Her hallmark was her ability to light up every room, her love of life, her wit, and her sense of humor was off the charts.
She is survived by her husband, Rob; her children, Jill McCutcheon (Kurt Suda) and Darren McCutcheon (Lauren); her cherished grandchildren, Aubrey, Walker, and Austin Suda, and Troyor and Addyson McCutcheon. She also leaves behind adored cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many treasured friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Troyer Thompson and sister, Judy Dean.
There will be a Celebration of Life at First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake, on May 23rd at 12:30 with a reception to follow at the church.
