Shirley May Humphrey

She was born July 2, 1924, in Crystal Lake to Theodore and Emma (Nickles) Holtz. On April 13, 1946, she married Charles “Chuck” Humphrey in Crystal Lake.

Chuck and Shirley owned the Crystal Lake News Agency for many years and developed many friendships during that time. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was part of the Friendship Guild, ILA Guild, and Club 60.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (the late Joe) Haskins, Julie (Mark) Menke, Charles (Maryanne) Humphrey, and Tom Humphrey; her grandsons, Bryan and Kyle Menke, and Zachary Haskins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant daughter; and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm on Sunday, May 22, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

The funeral service will be at 11am on Monday, May 23, at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.
