My name is David Clark. Sid hired me to work at the Morton-Thiokol (Morton's company name at that time) Plant just outside of New Iberia, LA in about 1978. At this time, Sid was the Project Manager in charge of constructing a new manufacturing site. The site would have 2 different manufacturing areas; I would oversee one of them.  

Constructing a manufacturing site is a challenging and frustrating job as there are daily problems that have to be solved. Sid was a very smart person and he was able to get to the root of the problem and, after discussing the possible actions, he would inevitably come up with the most efficient and logical solution. He had a clarity of vision about how the plant would be built that he passed on to others on site.
Sid was highly respected by all the employees working on the site. Executives and high level engineers would visit the plant site regularly and I quickly saw their respect for Sid and their confidence in the job he was doing. It was clear that he was the leader of the project and his leadership style was more of a benevolent leader. When there are so many different construction skills working on a site, there are guys who didn't get along and sometimes mistakes were made. I never saw Sid get angry or overwhelmed when one of the construction men or engineers brought a problem to him. He was like a father figure to all the workers on site and he resolved all types of problems without anger or judgement. I loved working with/for him.  I was younger in my professional career and I learned a lot about managing projects and people from Sid. He positively influenced the way I managed projects and people during my career.
It was clear in working with Sid that the job was just a job; his real love was his family. He talked about Pinky and the kids all the time and the love he had for them showed in his talk and actions. I am truly sad to hear of his passing. I thought of him often during my career and I'm glad I knew him.

 

My sincerest condolences to the Martin family.
My mother worked with Pinkie for many years at MCC and they were good friends.  Sid was always a stand up kind of guy and will be sorely missed in this day and age.

We were very surprised to hear about Sid's passing. Because of covid restrictions we watched  Sid's memorial service online. We would like to express our deepest condolences to your family. I always enjoyed working for Sid. We always enjoyed going to dinner with the two of you.  Pinky when covid is over George and I would like to take you out to dine one night. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Pinky and family,  With sadness I remember growing up with Sid.  We were as close as brothers as we lived a short distance from each other. Very few days passed that we weren't together.  We went to school , run around, and shared many things.   I  could talk for hours, but only want you to know, Sid was very special to me.  We went different directions as we grew up, and didn't see each other much, but so many memories will always be.  Our prayers and love are with you at this time,  We can't be with you as my health will not permit, but we will be with you in spirit.

My condolences to Sid's family for your loss. My connection to knowing Sid is working at Morton from the mid 70's through the mid 90's.

A hard working leader who was committed to integrity and willing to get his hands "dirty" are a few attributes that come to mind.

I consider myself fortunate to have worked with and for him after completing college. This helped shape my work habits/ethics going forward in my working career.

Uncle Sid was a wonderful being. Many of my favorite memories of him were of our squirrel talks, discussions of the “good and evil” of squirrels. We each took a side and had some good laughs. I loved hearing about how his yearly fishing expeditions  turned out, and stories about what his youth on a farm was like. I will miss him. With light, love and comfort to the Martin family and brightest blessings to Uncle Sid.
