The oldest of four children, Elsielen was born January 19, 1936, in West Point, Alabama, to parents Arthur R. and Edna Verna Cook Buckelew. As the Buckelew family grew, they moved to Cullman, Alabama. Elsielen was often found playing the piano in the church. She attended Cullman High School where she met her future husband, Darrell Lloyd Livingston, of Good Hope, Alabama.
After graduating from Cullman High School, Elsielen married Darrell on September 18, 1954. The couple attended the University of North Alabama (Florence State). Upon graduation, Darrell joined the United States Army and the couple moved to Fort Gregg-Adams (Fort Lee), Virginia.
After Army life, they moved back to Alabama where their daughter, Deborah, was born, and settled in Huntsville, Alabama. Elsielen worked at Redstone Arsenal, as a secretary for the engineers developing the Saturn rockets in the 1960s. She was involved in various church and charity organizations.
In 1971, the family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and then to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1983. Elsielen again involved herself in social and charity organizations, including the Women’s Golf Organization at Shenandoah Country Club, Baton Rouge. Darrell passed away April 8, 1988. Elsielen turned then to carrying for her mother and mother-in-law. When she could, she traveled and visited with her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Daniel.
As Elsielen spent more and more time with Deborah and Daniel in Austin, Texas, she attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. We would like to thank the congregation and Pastors for comforting her and us with prayers and visits until she went home to be with the Lord.
Elsielen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Brenda (Pat) Patterson, brother Billy C. (Joyce) Buckelew, and parents-in-law, Martin Irving and Willie Dorothy Griffin Livingston.
Elsielen is survived by her daughter, Deborah L. Livingston Popp, and son-in-law Daniel C. Popp, her brother, James “Jimmy” (Joyia) Buckelew. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Teresa (Mike) Norwood, Heath (Teri) Patterson, Tammy (Nettles) Green, Kelly Pulliam, Cheryl (Brad) Smith, and Jordan (Nick) Doss. Elsielen adored her grand nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Our family wishes to thank Hospice Austin for their compassionate care of Elsielen in her final days.
