

Mr. Franklin D. Phillips Sr. of Cullman Alabama passed away on August 23, 2011 at Noland Hospital in Birmingham Alabama at the age of 73. Mr. Phillips was born in Cullman on November 10, 1937 to Thomas Harold and Lois Montene Lee Phillips. He graduated from Cullman High School in 1956. He entered the U.S. Navy in October 1956 and served aboard the USS Sailfish, Robert E. Lee and put The George Bancroft into commission in Groton, Ct. He retired from the Navy in April 1977 with the rank of RMCS (Radioman Senior Chief Petty Officer). He is preceded in death by his parents, Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law: Thomas and Lizzie Mae McGukin, Brothers-In-Law: Raymond Bahr and Kenneth Henry and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 26, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Moss Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donny Yarbrough officiating. Interment will be in Sardis Cemetery at Trimble.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy McGukin Phillips of Cullman, 1 Son: Lt. Col. Franklin (Cheryl) Phillips Jr. of Tampa, Fl., 2 Daughters: Vicki Renee Phillips of Cullman, Cindy Michelle Phillips of Mobile, Al., 1 Grandson: Franklin Thomas Phillips of Cullman, 2 Sisters-In-Law: Ruby Bahr and Edna Henry, 1 Aunt: Ruth Odum and several Cousins.
The family request in lieu of flowers: Donations be made to The American Lung Association.
Visitation will be held on Thursday August 25, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Moss Service Funeral Home.
