A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, Gary was a pillar of the Cullman community. He was best known for his compassionate service as the longtime county coroner and as a police officer for the City of Cullman. Throughout his life, Gary dedicated himself to serving others—both in his professional roles and through community involvement.
For many years, Gary lovingly guided families through some of life’s most difficult moments as a trusted presence at Moss Service Funeral Home, where he was known to many as “the face of Moss.” He was also a proud and active member of the Cullman Lion’s Club, and faithfully served on the board of Cullman Caring for Kids, where his heart for children made a lasting impact.
Gary now rejoices in eternal rest alongside his beloved son, Brian Murphree, and his parents, L.D. and Florence Helen Murphree.
Gary is survived by his daughters: Jennifer (Nathan) Moore, and Amy Teasley; son, Ben (Deanna) Murphree; sister, Elaine Umphrey; grandchildren: Blaise (Kayland) Wilson, Morgin (Levi) Strickland, Olivia Teasley and Noah Teasley; ex-wife and good friend, Rebecca (Judy) Spradlin Kenemore; special friend and bonus daughter, Brooke Marks and a host of other family members, friends and a loving community.
