

Helen Vogel Millar, 90, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on July 17, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents, Oscar H. Vogel and Ave Lena Davis Vogel, and her sister and brother in law Selma Vogel Smith and Boyce “Smitty” Smith.
Helen was born and raised in Cullman, Alabama. She graduated from Cullman High School and later attended Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce, Florida. She was married to Hudson C. Millar, Jr. from 1950 to 1964. In 1967 she relocated to Fort Pierce, Florida.
Helen’s first job was as a bookkeeper for Drinkard’s Chevrolet. She went on to become a head bookkeeper and accountant for more than 25 years. In the 1970’s, she successfully tried her hand at real estate sales and later owned and operated her own business, “Sun Realty,” as a Real Estate and Mortgage Broker in Fort Pierce, Florida. In 2003, she retired and returned to Cullman to enjoy her remaining years near two of her sons and their families.
Known in Cullman and Fort Pierce as a lady with Southern charm, Helen was a seasoned traveler and an accomplished dancer, seamstress, and artist. She excelled at flower arranging, holding the title of Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judge and Master Design and Horticulture Instructor as designated by the National Federation of Garden Clubs. She loved her two churches, St. Paul’s Lutheran (Cullman, Alabama) and Trinity Lutheran (Fort Pierce, Florida) and was a student of the Bible.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Randolph Hudson Millar (Cynthia) of Vinemont, Alabama; Gregory Brett Millar (Tracy) of Madison, Alabama; and Jeffrey Baird Millar (Nancy) of McAllen, Texas; grandchildren Robert (Rebecca), Diana (James “Bubba”), Natalie, Brett (Kelley), Samantha, William, Tamarah, Bracken, and Taryn; eight great-grandchildren; brother Edgar (Wynema) Vogel, over 100 young men (now not so young) who once called her “Mom,” and many friends.
Visitation will be Friday, July 25, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 513 Fourth Avenue SE, Cullman, Alabama. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with internment in the Cullman City Cemetery immediately following the service.
