Mrs. Jo Ann Taylor Sachs

Funeral Services for Mrs. Jo Ann Sachs, age 65 of Cullman, will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Catholic Cemetery, with Father Patrick Egan, O.S.B. and Father Marcus Voss, O.S.B. officiating.

Mrs. Sachs passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at her residence. She was born on November 15, 1945 in Cullman to James David Taylor and Dorothy Mae Burns Taylor. She is preceded in death by her father.

Jo Ann, had worked in the Cullman County School System for 17 years, 15 of which as the senior English teacher at West Point High School. She had graduated Summa Cum Laude from Athens State in 1990, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the past 46 years. In her spare time, she had collected books, stacked from floor to ceiling, in several rooms, many of which were antiques. That love of books, turned her in to an aficionado of “antiqueing” and “yardsaleing” , and along with that, she bought, made and fixed jewelry, which she then sold and turned the profits to the American Cancer Society, the “Bosom Buddies” aka Relay for Life.

Survivors include her Husband of 46 years, Joe W. Sachs; one Daughter – Rebecca Sachs (Philip) Parker of Huntsville; two Sons – Joseph W. (Angela) Sachs of Cary, N.C. and David M. Sachs of Morehead, KY; her Mother – Dorothy Burns Taylor of Cullman; three Sisters – Janie (Larry) Powers of Falkville, Pat (Jimmy) Bedingfield of Somerville and Linda Elrod of Cullman; one Brother – Billy (Cheryl) Taylor of Falkville; and seven Grandchildren – Dustin Schaefer, Michael Sachs, Brittany Evers, David Sachs, Evan Sachs, Christina Sachs and Sophia Sachs.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
