Robert L. "Bob" Caufield

April 13, 1929 - May 5, 2015

Died on May 5, 2015 at Summerford Nursing Home, Falkville, Alabama. Born in Gardendale, Alabama to Hale and Irene Caufield, attended Mortimer Jordan High School (class of 1947). Bob answered the call to ministry when he was 18, graduated from Birmingham Southern College and Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Divinity. He met Rosa in college, they married in 1952, and together they became missionaries to Bolivia for the United Methodist Church, North Alabama Conference. They spent the next 36 years in Bolivia, opening 3 vocational schools in developing areas of the country, and receiving an award from the Bolivian Minister of Education. In 1993, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Birmingham Southern. After retiring back to the US in 1991, he continued to be active in the church, preaching, teaching and leading work camps. He was predeceased by his wife Rosa in 2000, his second wife RuthAnn in 2010, his step-son Paul Robinson, and his step-daughter Joyce Lynn Sosa. He is survived by his children Phyllis (Darwin) Owens, Susan (Chuck) Carman, Steve (Denice) Caufield and Jennine (August) Zumbuhl; his stepchildren Patricia (Jim) Raymond, Rose Lynn Robinson, Henry (Tracee) Robinson; his grandchildren Andrew and David Carman, Paige and Hayley Owens, Rachel Caufield (Kasey) Speakman, Christina Caufield (Trent) Cronin, and Margaret Caufield, Alex, Austin and Anna Zumbuhl; his great- grandchild Tiffany Moss-Speakman; his step-grandchildren Caleb, Judah and Joshua (Emiliee) Robinson, Andres (Rosina), Daniel (Silvana) and Luis (Nasqui) Prudencio, Anthony Sosa, Evan and Ethan Robinson and Alessandra Agostinelli-Mantzey; and 6 step great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings Alice “Bunny” Cowart, Barbara (Mike) McLaughlin, Steve (JoAnn) Caufield, Georgeanna (Jack) Metcalf and brother-in-law Charles (JoAnn) Woods and numerous nieces and nephews.

His funeral services will be Saturday May 9th, 2015 at 10:00am at the Holly Pond United Methodist Church 37851 US Highway 91, Holly Pond, Alabama 35083. Visitation at Moss Funeral Home 1901 2nd Avenue, N.W., Cullman, Alabama 35055 will be on Friday May 8th, 2015 from 5:30pm – 8:00pm.
