One of ten children, she was born to Bertie West Hubbard and George McKinley Hubbard of the rural community of Meadows of Dan, Virginia in Patrick County on February 16, 1927. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed the very simple pleasures in life - wanting very little for herself but making sure that others had what they needed. She was kind, generous, and a Godly woman.
She worked at the Viscose Plant in Roanoke, Virginia (commonly known as the"silk
mill") during the 1940's. She also worked in the school cafeterias in Fairfax, Virginia and Culpeper, Virginia.
She has been a member of the Alum Spring Baptist Church for many years.
Annie has been a member of the Close Knits group in Culpeper for a long time. From morning until night she crocheted countless rectangles which the group put together to make afghans for the veterans. She was by far their largest donor turning in enough rectangles to make two or three afghans each month.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sherman S. Sewell; her grandson, John Christopher Sewell; a great-grandson, Paul Singh Ahluwalia; a step-great-great grandson, Konner Reed Sturgill; two brothers, Ralph Hubbard of Meadows of Dan and Dayton Hubbard of Troutville; three sisters, Pauline Hubbard Cruise of Moneta, Christine Hubbard Kirk of Roanoke, and Louise Hubbard Sewell
of Floyd.
She is survived by her four children: Lyndon S. Sewell and wife Sandy of Rapidan, Virginia; Patti Sewell Harris and husband Paul of Glen Allen, Virginia; Christina Sewell Burke and husband Swanie of Culpeper, Virginia; and Naomi Lea Sewell of Lynchburg, Virginia; 8 grandchildren: Amy Carter, Drew Spradling, Sara Ahluwalia, Eleanor Beck, Nathan Harris, Matthew Sewell, John East, and Beth Burke; 12 great-grandchildren; four siblings: Bill Hubbard, Hope Harris, and Beatrice Stovall of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, Callie Snead of Floyd, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
