Catherine “Kitty” LuNora Miller VerValin passed away in the early morning Sunday, September 11, 2016. Kitty was born in Culpeper, VA on March 18, 1950 to James William and Margaret Elizabeth (Creel) Miller. She graduated with honors from Piedmont College in Demorest, GA, receiving a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1972. That autumn, she began teaching at Criglersville Elementary, the start of a more than 30-year career as an educator in the Madison County school system. She officially retired in 2002, but that never stopped her from teaching valuable lessons or inspiring students. In 1982, she married Richard VerValin and over the next few years, had two daughters who will never stop being amazed at their mother’s strength. For the last several years, Kitty worked at Plow & Hearth in Madison, VA, where she got to do two of her favorite things – talk and shop! She worked with many former students there, and she made lasting friendships among that family. She loved to read, craft, photograph, or make anything personalized to put a smile on someone’s face.
Kitty is survived by her two daughters Amber (Charles Mason) VerValin and Renee VerValin, and a grandson Wyatt Molton, as well as four sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents, her brother James Kyle Miller, and sisters Elizabeth Earle Miller Harris and Nancy Leigh Miller. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 18, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in Culpeper National Cemetery, New Grounds.
Condolence may be given at clore-english.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, VA 22701.
