
Born in Richmond, Virginia, on September 19, 1936, Mr. Geest lived the majority of his life in Culpeper and will be remembered as a leading citizen of the community.
Having attended Culpeper County public schools, Mr. Geest earned his degree at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, before returning to Culpeper to start his career as a highly successful funeral professional and owner of Geest Funeral Home.
Throughout his career and following his retirement, he was a staunch supporter of the Culpeper community serving as a volunteer for various organizations including the Food Closet and the Museum of Culpeper History where he also served as a Trustee. He was a former member and president of the Exchange Club of Culpeper, Culpeper Toastmasters and the Culpeper Mental Health Association. An active member of Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Culpeper, Mr. Geest served four terms on its vestry, once as junior warden and twice as senior warden. He was also a lay Eucharistic minister and taught in the church’s Sunday school. On several occasions he acted as a lay delegate to the Virginia Diocesan Council.
A lover of film and classical music and an avid theater attendee, Mr. Geest performed in numerous local amateur productions. He also enjoyed his membership in the Nutheads, a literary society located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Keenly interested in local and national politics, Mr. Geest was an active member of the Culpeper County Democratic Committee. In 1972 he served as a member of the Virginia Delegation to the Democratic National Convention. In recent years he served as the Chief Officer of Elections for Culpeper’s West Fairfax Precinct.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 beginning at 11:00 o’clock at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Culpeper with Father Trent Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Geest requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made in his name to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 115 North East Street Culpeper, VA 22701 or to the Museum of Culpeper History, 803 South Main Street Culpeper, VA 22701.
