

Joseph “Joe” G. Powers, Sr., 85, passed away in the Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center, Monday, August 8, 2011. Mr. Powers was born in Atlanta, GA, August 27, 1925 to Arthur Mead Powers and Nellie Butler Powers; served his country during W.W. II, receiving an honorable discharge; was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church for fifty-seven years; was a charter member of John Cempre Council 6328 Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the Rappahannock General Assembly 4th Degree; retired from the U.S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier for Boston, VA for 24 years. Mr. Powers loved his family and enjoyed woodworking, making furniture for his family.
Surviving Joe Powers are his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Powers of Boston, VA, his children; Joseph G. Powers, Jr., Charles Mark Powers and his wife Kathy of Boston, VA, Kathryn Powers Hudson and her husband Pete of Dallastown, PA and Linda Powers Delle and her husband Bob of Meridian, ID, sister; Barbara Lyon and her husband George of Culpeper, VA, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Joe Powers was preceded in death by his father, his mother and step-father; Nellie Powers Biggers and her husband Brice, his son, Patrick Brice Powers, and sisters; Patricia Sabine Herman and Mary Nell Powers.
There will be a visitation Thursday evening, August 11, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 114 E. Edmondson St., Culpeper with Father Leo Zonneveld officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
