

Joyce was born in Woodville, VA on June 28, 1956 and was a graduate of Rappahannock County High School. She worked as a seamstress at Aileen for 21 years before obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science and Management degree from Eastern Mennonite University and pursuing her true passion, teaching. Joyce worked as a substitute teacher, an aide, and finally a teacher at Rappahannock County Elementary school for 20 years before retiring in 2019. During her time there she made many friendships and impacted the lives of the children she taught.
Joyce’s memory will live on in those of us she left behind. Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, Albert; her children- Gary Wharton (Stephanie) and Mark Wharton (Ashley); a grandson- Bryce Wharton; mother in law- LeeAnna Wharton; siblings- Betty Crawford, David Huff (Janet), Bobby Huff, and Danny Huff (Hope); sister in law- Lisa Dodson (Ronnie); numerous nieces and nephews; a special caregiver- Brandie Patterson Harris; and an adored best friend- Margie Southard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Annie Huff.
Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards with her grandson, completing word searches, and reading her bible. She will always be remembered for her unwavering kindness, faith, and positive spirit.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, VA, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 1:00pm. Interment will be in Sperryville Cemetery, Sperryville, VA. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce's memory may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300 , Charlottesville, Virginia 22911 US; and American Cancer Society.
