Martha was born on May 6th 1942 to Victor North and Martha Park North, in Camden, New Jersey, and raised along side her older brother Alfred North and younger sister Pauline North. At the age of 10, her father passed away and the family relocated to Moultrie, Georgia to be near family. In 1964, the family moved to Northern Virginia where she began her government service in the FBI and then Department of Defense.
During this time, she met John Seiders whom she married in June 1968. They had one child together, Stefani [Seiders], born in September of 1971. Only a year later, John was killed in an auto accident. Martha continued to live and work in Northern Virginia, progressing from a telephone operator to Administrative Assistant for the Joint Chief of Staff. Martha retired in 2005 and in 2006 moved in with her daughter’s family in Manassas, Virginia. In 2017, the family relocated to a small farm in Reva, Virginia
Martha was a blessing to everyone she met. She was a great cook, who specialized in providing multiple, carb-heavy side dishes. She also sent greeting cards, letters, or would hand-deliver food and hugs to others as often as she could. As a devout Christian, she went on several mission trips and her house was always filled with the sounds of gospel music, the Barefoot Contessa, or the Hallmark Channel. She maintained decades-long friendships and was at great ease greeting others and becoming friends. She was a giving, loving, caring sister, aunt, mother, and in her later years she was known to most as “Nana”.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Stefani Joosten, son-in-law Robbie Joosten and her grandchildren Morgan Harp, Spencer Helmick, Avery & Paige Joosten, her dog Rascal. Additional family include her sister, Pauline, and brother-in-law Fred Reider, her niece Jennifer Roberts with husband Brian Roberts and their children Kristen, Alexis and Joey, as well as her nephew Dan Reider with wife Ingrid and children Andrew and Samantha.
Due to the on-going pandemic, Martha’s celebration of life will be postponed until the Spring out of safety and love for everyone who wishes to attend. In lieu of flowers, please provide a donation in her memory to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
