Nancy was born on December 2, 1928 in Stamford, Connecticut where she spent her childhood years. Nancy was a creative person and enjoyed playing the guitar while in high school. After high school she joined the Navy and became a Wave at the end of World War II. During that time, while stationed near Washington, D.C. she met and fell in love with her future husband, James Ernest Davenport, a U.S. Marine. They married and moved to be near James’ family in Wharton, New Jersey. Very soon after they moved to a new home in Salem Village, Dover, New Jersey where they raised four children and lived for thirty five years. Nancy had a career as a data entry specialist at AT&T Company. She retired in 1989 and moved with her husband to enjoy her new home in Punta Gorda, Florida. Nancy and Jim loved Florida and loved having their family visit them there. They especially enjoyed their grandchildren and later their great-grandchildren being there and showing them how much they loved them.
Throughout her lifetime Nancy loved to make things for her family. She loved to sew, knit and especially loved to crochet. She was an avid sewer in her younger years and enjoyed making clothes for herself and her daughters. She knitted and crocheted in her later years and made sweaters and beautiful afghans for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking and making wonderful meals for her family at any time but especially during the holidays.
While in Florida Nancy & Jim enjoyed many friends, many of whom they met while on bowling teams. They became good enough to travel and participate in tournaments for their bowling league. They enjoyed traveling together and visiting many beautiful places in the United States. They also visited Guam where Jim had been stationed as a Marine on more than one occasion, to celebrate the gathering of Jims’ former Marine Corps unit.
Nancy and Jim left their beloved home in Florida and resided at “The Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community” in Culpeper, Virginia beginning in August of 2021. There she met and enjoyed many friends, knitted for charity and enjoyed various activities. She loved music and while there she joined the bell choir and performed with them on special occasions. People there loved her for her sense of humor, friendliness towards others, openness and honesty.
