Robert "Bobby" Stephen Garr, 55, of Culpeper, Virginia went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on October 4, 2012. Beautiful Bobby was the beloved son of June W. Garr of Richmond, Virginia and the late Herbert H. Garr. Bobby will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife and best friend, Cecilia "CeAnn" Garr; his treasured stepchildren, Matthew Marlor of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Stephanie Hawkins of Boston, Virginia, and his three adorable granddaughters, Melanie Marlor, Haley and Natalie Hawkins. In addition, he is survived by his proud siblings, Lynne Garr Birckhead and Randolph "Randy" Garr of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Karen Garr Reece of Richmond, Virginia; and preceded in death by his sister, Kim Anderson Garr. He also is remembered by many loving nieces and nephews.
Bobby was best known as a "drummer extraordinaire." Blessed to have honored his lifelong passion, Bobby played with many bands and touched countless hearts and souls with his music. Anyone who knew fun-spirited, open-hearted Bobby recognized his dedication for physical fitness and his love for candy. His extended family was the AA fellowship with whom he celebrated 19 years of sobriety and also served as a role model and success story for many "pigeons" under his wing. A larger than life character and a beautiful soul, Bobby lived with a rare openness, willing to freely share his greatest joys and deepest pain with any and all. In so doing, Bobby freed others to do the same; it was his gift. He was a great disciple and light of the Lord, sharing God's love and His joy and His forgiveness. Bobby and CeAnn wish to thank those who helped him in his lifelong struggle with bipolar and anxiety disorder including the Behavioral Healthcare of Rappahannock-Rapidan, his life-long friend, Dr. Reiter, and his understanding and supportive family and friends.
The last few months of Bobby's brave battle with colorectal cancer were made easier by the caring and capable hands of the UVA team members of Floor 6 Central and Dr. Hedricks of UVA Hospital, as well as, Dr. Gaughan, and Dr. Khandlwal, and their Oncology Team at the UVA Hope Center of Culpeper.
Beautiful Bobby believed that "courage is being afraid and going on anyway." He has bravely gone on. In honor of Bobby and CeAnn's inspiring journey, donations may be sent to CeAnn Garr, P.O. Box 2, Boston, VA 22713
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Culpeper United Methodist Church, 1233 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper, Virginia 22701.
