Mr. Tratar was one of the best teachers at Monroe High School. Many had him for homeroom and English , he was always there to listen or talk to about anything. I'm sorry to hear about his passing. While I didn't pursue film ,Tratar advocated for the film academy at Monroe,  something I really appreciated then and now, really open up the creativity in my life and I'm sure for others.  R.I.P Tratar. 

The James Monroe High School AP English graduating class of 2007 can all agree there has never and will never be an educator quite like Mr. Tratar.

I am a friend of the family. I danced at Brig's wedding, a lovely affair! My friend, Kim and I gave Brig's dad a retirement party. Naturally Brig was there, handsome--on his way up the ladder in the LAUSD. During the party, Brig sat on my couch and said thoughtfully, "Well, I grew up listening to my dad's teaching stories, coaching team reports. Here I am, following in his footsteps." Brig's brilliance was well known, so when he was nabbed for LAUSD leadership, it was no surprise. Of course, he finally taught English. That's his mom's forte. So, he inherited his talents from both mom and dad. I remember his strengths, his blue eyes,  and his smile.

Brig, this has been hard for me to process and reflect. I miss just calling you or texting,  or you call me to banter, you are my dear friend from my teenage years til now. 

We recently connected the last 6 years and lived in the same hood Venice beach for a while which was trippy… just a couple blocks away. A brilliant story teller, many late night convos and I always felt close we shared a lot of laughter and a love for educating and mentoring tha kids! Gonna miss you, there is never enough time in this life.  I will never forget you smile, your blue eyes, your laughter, and your punk rock ways. Until me meet again, never goodbye!

I only got to know Brig in the last year through a UCSB alumni group and we got to meet up twice. Even in that short time I considered him a friend as we had a shared college experience and love for music. When I was in Europe in June I found a bagel shop called Bagelstein which was the name of one of his beloved bands that he played guitar in, and I figured he would get a kick out of it. I snapped a couple photos and shared them with Brig but unfortunately I was too late. I’m sharing one of them here. I’ll miss you, Brig - rock and roll.

I worked with Brig in HR several years ago. I will never forget when he laughed and he was always there with a smile when I needed one. 

I am very sorry to hear of Brigs passing.  I had the pleasure of working with him in Human Resources in  LAUSD and have many fond memories of that time.    Sending best wishes and prayers to his family and loved ones....



Brig was a memorable person with whom I had the pleasure to work.  I find this very difficult to do, as I am just finding out about his passing.  Please know that his contribution to LAUSD is greatly appreciated and he will truly be missed.


Brig, it was such a blessing to have you in our lives for the time that you were present. Thank you for showing support when my mom died. I will always remember you for providing my sisters with two wonderful boys and our occasional talks about the public and private school systems. You are home now and no longer have to suffer. I love you and Rest In Peace.
