David E. Forrest Sr., 73, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, in his home in Culver City on February 18, 2022. He was born December 8, 1948 in Santa Monica, the son of John C. Forrest and Janet (Willis) Forrest. As a graduate from Santa Monica High School, Dave joined the U.S. Army and served with HQ Company of the 304th Signal Battalion in Korea from 1966 to 1969. After his service he worked in construction starting as a laborer. Over the years he filled several roles in the industry from operating heavy equipment to site foreman. He took and passed his exams to become an inspector for the City of Los Angeles in 1983 where he remained until he retired in 2009. His tall stature, deep voice, and tell-it-like-it-is attitude bolstered his reputation for commitment to excellence both on and off the job site. He was also known for being exceptionally well-read and his most recent hobbies included reading historical non-fiction, staying abreast with current politics, supporting fellow veterans online, listening to music, rooting for the Raiders, and golf.
In addition to his parents, Dave is predeceased by his former wives and mothers to his children, Hui Chun and Claudia. Surviving are his sister, Louise Forrest and her wife Leslie Horst, and brother, John Forrest and his wife Lorraine Forrest; son Craig Forrest and wife Sylvia Ortiz-Forrest, and son David Forrest Jr.; grandchildren Victoria, John, Nina and Nathan; niece Karyn, her husband Dave and their son Shawn, and niece Denise.
Dave's final wish was to be cremated and buried at sea. His family intends to have a "Celebration of Life" event in his honor followed by his burial in the Pacific in late summer. His children welcome donations to The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society https://seashepherd.org/ in his memory in lieu of flowers or other gifts as an expression of sympathy. This is an organization that Dave has wholeheartedly supported through the years.
