Delores Esther Haynesworth passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 in Los Angeles, CA as a result of heart failure. This followed Delores’ valiant effort to survive serious injury and a major stroke six years ago. Delores was the epitome of strength, positive energy and love for her family throughout her recovery. This was directly attributed to the joy Delores experienced during her long recovery from the unwavering commitment of her husband, Daniel Sr. His determination to keep her comfortable in her own home where he lovingly provided round the clock in-home care while continuing to lead a demanding business was extraordinary.
The youngest of three children born to Joseph and Julia Hymes on August 14, 1928 in New Orleans, LA, Delores survived her brother Joseph Jr. and sister Yvonne.
Delores married a young Army sergeant, Daniel Haynesworth, Sr. on Feb 27, 1956. During his military career they lived in New Orleans, LA, Inkster, MI, Anchorage Alaska, and Yuma, AZ. They made their home in Los Angeles, CA in 1966 where they raised their son, Daniel Haynesworth, Jr. Delores attended Our Lady of Mount Lebanon – St. Peter Cathedral while living in Los Angeles.
Delores retired from the Federal National Mortgage Corporation (FANNIE MAE) in 1983 as an Executive Assistant. She later applied many of those skills to support Dan Sr. in the operation of his business. In retirement, Delores enjoyed reading romance novels, going out to dinner with her husband every Friday night, shopping for her grandkids, an occasional senior trip to Las Vegas, visiting friends and cooking traditional New Orleans dishes, especially for New Year’s Day.
Delores is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dan Sr., her only child Dan Jr., three grandchildren: Mitchell, Monica, and Martin, daughter-in-law Linnie, niece Claudia Perry and her son Morgan Tracey, nephew Joe III and a host of friends and extended family.
The family acknowledges and thanks the care-givers who supported Delores with cheerful grace for many years: Germaine, Thelma and Maureen.
