2019 at his home in West Los Angeles, California. He was born on
November 4, 1949 in Santa Monica, California. The son of Marcial and
Virginia (Muñoz) Marquez.
Johnnie grew up in the West Los Angeles area, where he still lived at the
time of his passing. He attended Mary E. Bennett School for the Deaf, Le
Conte Jr. High and graduated from Hollywood High school in 1968.
He started working for the city of Los Angeles on March 30, 1984 as a
custodian for the LAPD. In 2011 he was custodian of the year for the
LAPD district. After 31 years of service he retired in June of 2015.
Johnnie enjoyed traveling, with his girlfriend Laurie, to such places as
Hawaii, Washington DC, Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming, Washington, and San
Francisco. During his travels he discovered that there was more than just
California weather. He also enjoyed spending time in Laguna Beach and
Palm Springs. Some of his other pass times were bike riding, hiking,
camping, woodworking and helping out at Howards Famous Bacon
Avocado Burgers. He loved his bird Buffalo and Laurie’s dog Sally.
In addition to his parents Marcial and Virginia, he was preceded in death
by his sister Rosemarie (Rosa) Marquez, his brother Richard Marquez and
his nephew Aurelio Esparza Jr.
He is survived by his brothers Arturo Marquez and Robert Marquez.
Sister-in-laws Debbie, Rosie and Hilda, 3 nephews, 4 nieces, and 16 great
nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Johnnie was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. He will be
dearly missed , but never forgotten.
