

Richard George Mendenhall, 67, of Los Angeles, died September 21, 2015. He will be sadly missed. During his last year he suffered from several painful medical issues. He is now pain free. May he rest in peace. Richard was born in February 1948 to Doris and Arthur Mendenhall in Los Angeles. He attended Holy Spirit Elementary School and St. John Vianney High School, later named Daniel Murphy High School in Los Angeles. He continued his education at Los Angeles Community College where he met his wife, Ruth Yvonne Veale. He enjoyed collecting Teddy bears and trains, and playing the pipe organ. He was the Organist and Music Director for Immaculate Conception Church and School in downtown Los Angeles since 1968, and for Nativity Church and School in Torrance since 2000. He also repaired organs in churches and homes all around Los Angeles. He had a real gift for relating to and communicating with school children grades 5 - high school. Many of Immaculate Conceptions's alumni have fond memories of him. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Doris, and by his wife, Ruth Yvonne Veale. He is survived by his cousin, Brenda Neumeyer. Services will be on Saturday, October 3rd, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City, CA, 90230. Viewing is from 10 am - 12:15 pm. in Viewing Room B, including recitation of the Rosary at 11:15 am. The Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 pm in the Chapel of the Risen Christ, with internment immediately following in the outdoor mausoleum near the chapel.
