

Alice was born in Balmoral, New Brunswick on October 24, 1919 to Helene and Edmond. After graduating from Normal School in 1937, she taught at local schools in the Charlo area and later moved to Montreal to study Nursing. She married in Charlo in 1946. She lived in New York City, Saint John, Hay River (Northwest Territories), Edmonton and Dalhousie. Along with her careers in teaching and nursing, she enjoyed family time and travel, story-telling, bridge, knitting, crossword puzzles, genealogy, tutoring new Canadians, and was involved in her church and the CWL.
She leaves behind five children: Michael (Lauretta) of Saint John, Helen (Bas) of Charlo, Peter of Calgary, Anne of Vancouver and John (Barbara) of Dalhousie, seven grand-children, seven great grand-children, a sister Claire and a brother Leo as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Capt. James Doherty, four brothers: Edgar, Albert, Donat, Herman, four sisters: Albertine, Alma, Celina, Emma and her daughter-in-law, Lauretta (nee Henderson).
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Dalhousie Nursing Home for their kindness and support while our mother lived there.
Funeral plans will be announced in the spring.
