Allan Casey

Allan was the oldest child of Walter Casey and Genevieve Harquail. Born on October 23, 1951 in Dalhousie, NB.

Allan was a graduate of Dalhousie Regional High School and an avid hockey player, as a young man. Some will remember his many years with the Moosehead Rangers in their heyday. He worked his entire career as a pipefitter at New Brunswick International Paper Company in Dalhousie. He was married to Donna Trafford (m. Casey) and raised two children, Shannon and Sam.

He was proud to serve the Town of Dalhousie as a town councilor during the 1990s. He was an active community member for many years serving as a volunteer firefighter and chairing the local Bon Ami Festival. He was a dedicated union member having taken on committee work and leadership roles. He was a member of the Dalhousie Curling Club and spent many hours enjoying the sport. Allan also loved spending time in the “South East”, hunting at the camp, and playing bridge. Travelling and camping on the Restigouche River with friends brought him much joy. In his 50s Allan spent some time abroad in Ireland but then returned to Dalhousie. In recent years, debilitating mental illness made it very difficult for him to enjoy a positive life experience. He was dependent on the compassion and support of his native Dalhousie, until he was diagnosed and hospitalized.

Allan was pre-deceased by his parents and survived by his daughter Shannon Black (Ben) of Victoria BC, son Sam of Moncton NB, three grandchildren (Joshua, Claire and Daniel Black), three sisters – Sandra Chedore (Carl), Helen Casey Gray (Wayne) and Patsy Casey McGraw (Ed), one brother, Brian Casey, six nieces and one nephew. May he rest in peace.

The family wishes to thank all those who showed him kindness during this phase of his life. He spent a brief time at the Manoir de la Vallée in Campbellton and succumbed to a lung infection at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. John Bosco Church in Dalhousie, Wednesday May 5 at 1:30 pm. To attend please call Chris Kingston at 684-2810 to register.
