In his youth, Gerald was avid skater and skier. He was a proud member of Cadets and he enjoyed many summers at Camp Aldershot.
In 1950 he met a pretty little school teacher, Mae from Belledune, NB, who became the love of his life. They married in 1953.
Gerald's working career began at O'Briens Men's Wear, then to Loggies/Dominion grocery store. In 1956, he began a successful career of 32 years with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Upon retirement he enjoyed a return to skating, wood working and went from downhill to cross country skiing.
Most of his vehicles were in Dad's favourite color “ Blue”.
In 1967, Gerald and Mae purchased land in Charlo, NB. Many happy years were spent clearing land and building a cottage. The addition of a tree house for the grandchildren was one of his favourite projects. Dad was an expert clam digger even though he did not eat many. Many fond memories and family gathering were held there over the past 55 years and continue to this day.
Dad was a man of strong faith with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was a devoted family man and an ambitious business man. He was kind, generous, loyal and had an excellent work ethic. He valued his friendships from boyhood days as well as those he met during his working life. Many remained lifelong friends.
We, his family were blessed with a wonderful dad, Pépére, Grampy, Grand Pépére and Grand papa. We always felt loved and respected. Gerald was proud and supportive of all our accomplishments and a great cheerleader!
Dad loved a good joke and a competitive game of horseshoes. In recent years he accepted the challenges of ill health with grace and dignity.
We are left with many warm memories that will fill our hearts forever.
We know dad is in heaven, enjoying driving a new “Blue” vehicle and smoking his pipe.
We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Administration and Staff of the Villa Renaissance, especially Block B, for the wonderful and compassionate care provide to Gerald. You were his guardian angels. We will never forget you.
