He was born in Rome, Ga., son of the late Jesse Willie and Lillian Ann Brooks
Knight.
Mr. Knight was a veteran of the U. S. Navy in World War II, where he attained
the rank of Gunner’s Mate First Class and was assigned to the Troop Carrier USS
Elizabeth C. Stanton (AP69) and was involved in 5 major invasions, Fedela,
Sicily, Salerno, St. Tropez and Okinawa and a member of U. S. Naval Reserves for
8 years. He was a member of the Absher-Flowers V. F. W. Post # 9337, former
member of Civil Air Patrol, member of Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church. Mr.
Knight worked for 26 years with Colonial Neon Sign Company, Gastonia and then
was owner of Knight Sign Service, Dallas. He was a member of International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 62 years.
Mr. Knight is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Ann Fazenbaker Knight;
one daughter, Laura Faulkner and husband Jimmy of Gaffney; four grandchildren,
Cameron Maples and wife Leslie, Keith Maples, Daniel Paul Knight and wife Kandy
of Gastonia, Jesse Lee Knight and wife Kristen of Rock Hill; five great,
grandchildren, Tyler Clayton, Keith Maples, Destiny Knight, Gage Knight,
Danielle Knight.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dallas Funeral
Home, 212 West Trade Street, Dallas.
Graveside services with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy will be 2 p.m. Thursday
at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Shaw and Rev.
Charles Ledford officiating.
Mr. Knight was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Gail Lynn
Knight, one son, Lee Willis Knight; one sister, Clara Evelyn Bryant.
