Thomas "Ed" Edward Cloninger

Thomas Edward “Ed” Cloninger, 84, of Dallas, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
He was born August 18, 1936 in Dallas to the late Thomas Glenn and Leona Huskey Cloninger.
He was employed by Homelite/John Deere for over 30 years before his retirement.
Ed was a member of Philadelphia Lutheran Church where he served on various committees.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Faye Miller Cloninger; a daughter and son-in-law (who was more of a son to him) Kate Cloninger Brown and Mike Brown; two of the world’s most perfect grandchildren, Katie Ann and Noah Michael Brown; his sister, Evelyn Watts of Hickory, NC; two brothers, Ray Cloninger (Ginger) and Steve Cloninger; a sister-in-law, Ann S. Cloninger; brother and sister-in-law, Don & Patricia Miller, all of Dallas; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved, as well as a number of close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mervin Glenn Cloninger, his brother-in-law, Bob Watts, and a nephew, Colby Watts.
A graveside Celebration of Life service will be held at Philadelphia Lutheran Church, 1910 Philadelphia Church Road, Dallas, NC on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Pastors Tom Cogan and George Rhyne officiating. The family will greet friends and family after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Philadelphia Lutheran Church, 1910 Philadelphia Church Road, Dallas, NC 28034 or to Dallas High Shoals Christian Ministry, PO Box 832, Dallas, NC 28034.

I will miss my Ed, my best buddy. I knew him for 50 years as we worked together, deer hunted and turkey hunted together. We talked together on the phone for hours at a time. He was more like a brother than my real brother. During all those years, we were never mad or irritated at one another. We confided in each other about a lot of personal things. I will always cherish all the good times we enjoyed. He was my true friend.

I remember "ED" as a great person with happy outlook on life. He was the kind of man who lived the way God would have us live. I feel blessed to have known him. I pray that God's Holy Spirit will comfort you until you see him again.

My daddy was my rock, my hero & my strength. He was a quiet man until he got to know you, then you became a friend or "bonus family". He was always willing to lend a hand, and never asked for anything in return.
He was happiest either sitting in his recliner watching old westerns, talking on the phone to his racing friends about the latest dirt track races, spending time at McDonalds getting all the latest news, working on chainsaws/string trimmers or walking in the woods with Mike, Katie & Noah.
The hardest thing is letting you go, l but I know you are in a better place.
I love you daddy, and I know you will be watching over us & give a nudge when we need it.

Ed, my dearest friend. The kind of friend everyone could only hope to have in this life. We had so many good times hunting and doing things together. If I was sick or hurt, Ed would always call me and check on me to see if I was ok or needed anything at all. He would literally give anyone the shirt off his back. I love you my friend. Rest in peace. I will never forget my best friend.

Ed was one of the nicest people I have ever known. Even when I was young, Ed always took the time to have a conversation with me at church. He was genuinely concerned how I was doing and how things were going. As I grew up and left the church, it didn’t change. When I came back to visit, after moving out of state, Ed always asked me how things were going. He has been a positive influence in my life, and Ed will be in my memories for the rest of my life. I hope that I will have the same impact on a young person during my life as Ed did on me.
