He was born on December 3, 1965 in Manhattan, New York to Aldo and Enrica Ponti Zocchi. He graduated from Highland Park H.S. in 1983, received a chemical engineering degree from Vanderbilt and later received his JD from Texas Wesleyan University. His 20 years of public service included working as a devoted Assistant District Attorney for the Dallas County DA’s Office as an intern, paralegal, a prosecutor in the Misdemeanor division, a Felony Chief for many years, a Deputy Chief in the Specialized Crime Division, as well as a Division Chief in the Grand Jury/Intake section. He also served as an officer for the FBI citizens’ academy among other FBI duties. In addition to his love of public service, he was a 5th degree Master of Tae Kwan Do, was self-taught in several foreign languages, enjoyed shooting sports, magic tricks, and cognitive challenges.
Survivors include his father, mother, brother, sister, three nieces, a nephew, and many great friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, TX with Msgr. Donald Zimmerman celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Dallas, TX. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alex Zocchi fund which will help memorialize Alex in the causes in which he cared.
