Alfonso Vara

Sr. Alfonso Vara Rodela, age 74, passed away on August 10, 2023, in Dallas, Texas at his home. He was born on May 21, 1950, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Dora Rodela Pulido and Santiago Vara Gonzalez. Alfonso was raised in Nuevo Laredo and graduated from Urbana Federal Revolucion in 1964.

He married Lucy Vara on December 21,1974 and the couple had 4 children. He was a machine operator at Irving Tool Manufacturing where he worked for more than 25 years.

In his spare time, Alfonso enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to help others and find creative solutions for fixing things. He enjoyed teaching and mentoring, Alfonso was also big on respect. He loved a good ribeye: “it needs to be juicy, well done, and tender.” His family and friends will remember him as a good father, husband, grandfather, uncle, teacher, friend, humble servant, cook, handyman, problem solver, and a person who gave everyone a chance.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dora Rodela Pulido and Santiago Vara Gonzalez, and his sisters Raquel Alicia Vara Rodelo, Irma Vara Rodelo, and Maricela Vara Rodela.

Alfonso is survived by his widow Lucy Vara, his children Cindy Ann Guerra, Doris Vara, Alfonso Vara Jr., and Isabel Rocio Gehrig.

Alfonso loved his family and gave all he could and more to them. He would always tell his children how much he loved them every time he saw them. Alfonso will especially be missed for his comforting words along with calming/patient aura. He had several wise sayings and songs that he would repeat to his children that they will forever remember. Alfonso enjoyed maintaining his home and would make repairs, but his pride and joy was his front yard. He was the best neighbor to all who walk by offering a wave, a chat, words of wisdom, plants and if you were lucky a taco or tamale. Alfonso loved his ranch in Ranger, Texas that he shared with his close friends and family. He added a room, a well, a kitchen, and bathroom. He would share his stories, companionship along with the deer meat he’d bring home and cook.

A visitation for Alfonso will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A committal service will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228.
