

LEVERING, Alice Charlene Pound Charlene was born July 28, 1931, in Newark, Ohio, and passed away December 7, 2021, in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilda R. Pound and Charles H. Pound of Newark, Ohio, and her loving husband of 54 years, Charles R. Levering. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Pound Davis and her husband, Dick. She is also survived by her daughter, Lou Ann Levering Monroe, and son, Craig R. Levering and his wife, Carrie. Also surviving her are 5 grandchildren: Laura Monroe Burnett and husband Brian of Los Angeles, CA; Carter Monroe and wife Beth of Tulsa, OK; Preston Monroe and wife Torian previously of London, England, and currently of Corona, NM; Christen Levering Redlich and husband Jody of Dallas, TX; and Courtney Levering of Dallas, TX. Great blessings are her 5 great-grandchildren: Morgan and Maeve Burnett, Cole Monroe, Hunter and Colleen Redlich.
Charlene graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a Masters of Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University. Charlene started her Dallas teaching career at Mary Boswell Grade School, moved to Harry C. Withers the first year it opened and ultimately taught first grade for 25 years at The Hockaday School, where she was named an Honorary Alumna in 1987. In the spring of 1984, the Meadows Foundation established a multi-year grant award for Excellence in Teaching at Hockaday and Charlene was the first recipient. She received Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1992. Her love of etiquette and manners was the impetus for "Pink Lemonade", the manners tutorial class which touched many children's lives. She also taught formal table etiquette as a visiting instructor for the Children's Formal Etiquette class at Tiffany and Co. and The Mansion on Turtle Creek.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Edgemere Retirement Community, as well as many thanks to her wonderful caregivers, especially Bea Moody, Alicia Moody, LaKeisha McCall and Nisie Hayes.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Hockaday School in The Levering Family Daisy Circle at the Welch Road entrance, which is named in her honor, on Saturday, December 11th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hockaday School, 11600 Welch Road, Dallas, TX 75229.
