

Alma was born on November 5, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri. After receiving her education at Cushing Academy in Massachusetts and the University of Arizona, Alma settled in Denison, Texas, with her college sweetheart, where she immersed herself in being a mother to her two cherished sons, Michael and William. An avid reader with a love for learning, Alma continued her education and received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with honors at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, in 1981.
For the past 35 years, Alma resided in Dallas, where she lived life to the fullest. She was passionate about helping others and spent countless hours volunteering at numerous organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of America, the Dallas Museum of Art and The Stewpot. Alma adored spending time with her family and friends, going to the movies, visiting art galleries and restaurants. Her love for travel led her all over the world to many amazing destinations in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia.
A true animal lover, Alma could always be found with her dogs ,Dixie and London, by her side and delighted in their company. She enjoyed spending time at the barn with her treasured horse, Charlie Tea, and was a beautiful equestrian. She loved attending church services and Sunday school with dear friends at Park Cities Presbyterian Church, where she continued to enrich her relationship with Jesus Christ.
Known for her elegance, grace, impeccable taste in fashion and décor, as well as her warm smile and her spirited, yet down-to-earth personality, Alma will be forever remembered with love by all her friends and family.
Alma is preceded in death by her parents, Alma Geise Luyties and Frederic August Luyties, Jr., and her older brother, Frederic August Luyties, III. She is survived by her sons Michael D. McKinney and wife Paige of Dallas, William L. McKinney and wife Jennifer of Dallas; her grandchildren, Katherine, Sarah,and Nate McKinney of Dallas; her sister-in-law Leigh McKinney McClendon and her children Frank, IV, Linley and Leighton of Tyler; and a host of family and friends.
A memorial service for Alma will be held on Tuesday, April 5th ,at 2:00 PM at Park Cities Presbyterian Church on Oak Lawn Avenue in Dallas ,with a reception to follow. The McKinney family would like to thank Alma’s long-term physician, Dr. Philip Aronoff, as well as The T. Boone Pickens Center/Faith Presbyterian Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion throughout her final months.
