Mr. Key lived his entire life in the Dallas area. He attended John Ireland and Annie Webb Blanton Elementary Schools, John B. Hood Jr. High, and WW Samuell High School (Go Spartans!) all of Dallas. Tony had a life-long love of automobiles, purchasing his first car at the age of ten and by the end of high school was in the wholesale automobile business. That eventually evolved into the auto transport business where he partnered with his dad and two brothers, all having a great time while simultaneously pulling their hair out. Tony retired in 2021.
Tony liked to travel, going to the beach and dressing sharp. He spent a good deal of time buying houses and remodeling them, while getting involved in all the details. Family was important. He also had many friends, some going all the way back to elementary school and made friends just about everywhere he went later in life. Here is just a taste of things that made Tony tick:
• Keeping his cars clean
• Laughing
• Sitting on the patio
• Begging drivers to get their bills signed
• Singing Happy Birthday to whomever may be celebrating one
• Going to Bob’s and Del’s with the guys
• Lunchtime at work
• Lots and lots and lots and lots of mayonnaise
• Carrying his black backpack
• Buying and remodeling residential properties
• Convertibles
• Dancing
• Sharing with friends
• Being just a tad-bit stubborn
• Post-its, lip balm, track suits, Bravo Channel, and Live PD
• By remembering the kind of car he had at the time, he could determine when world events took place. He was an expert at this.
• An appreciation for clean windows
• Traveling, warm temps and tanning
• Martinis
• "Putzing" in the yard
• GREAT food in general
• Reality TV
• Going out with girlfriends
• His nieces and nephews
• Mom and Dad, that’s for sure
He would want all of you to know he loved you.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jo Key. He is survived by his brothers Larry and Jamey Key, his sisters-in-law, Cheryl and Sharlette Key, his nephews Jason Key and his wife Molly, Joey Key, and Dalton Key, nieces Stacy Brown and her husband Damon and Jana Murrey and her husband Daniel. Also, great nephew Blaine Brown and great nieces Stella Key and Lucy Murrey. Tony had a busload of friends that he considered family.
As his health declined, he said his future was in God’s hands and confirmed his faith and belief in Jesus and was looking forward to seeing his Mom and Dad.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 2:00 – 5:00pm in the Treehouse Room at Jalisco Norte, 3858 Oak Lawn #470 (at the corner of Blackburn St, behind Inwood Bank). This is an informal, come and go as you please event.
