

Berta was born in Dallas on May 3, 1929, to Rafael and Juanita H. Ayala. Berta had numerous jobs but her favorite one is when she worked as a cafeteria cashier for Irving ISD for over 10 years, all the kids would call her grandma.
She enjoyed going to the casino, watching novelas, playing loteria bingo and being around family.
Berta is preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Juanita H. Ayala, brothers Rafael Jr., Richard, Eliseo, Robert, Manuel and Daniel Ayala, sisters, Mary Ramirez, Alice Ruiz and Isabel Gauna.
Berta is survived by her daughters Berta Figueroa (Tino Figueroa), Cecilia Gallegos (Chris Gallegos) and son Eddie Esparza, grandchildren Deonicio Villalon Jr. (Martha Villalon) Denise Valdez (Mario Valdez) Michelle Tamayo (Carlos Delesma) Cynthia Riojas (Eric Granberry), great grandchildren Alexandra Pena, Pedro Carlos Garcia III, Jordyn Wooten (Robert Wooten) Taylor Merritt, Kamryn Merritt, Victoria Garcia, Eric Granberry Jr., Alisa Cruz, Matthew Valdez, Valexya Delesma, Marco Valdez and great great grandson Azreal Wooten. Sisters Sarah Barrientos, Mary Helen Gonzales (David Gonzales) sister in law Anita Ayala, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
Visitation will be held at 4pm on Monday March 9 at Calvary Hill Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday March 10 at the North Chapel. Committal will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery at 12:00 pm. The family of Berta Ayala Leija wishes to thank VA Hospice.
