Beverly—Bev, Ms. Beverly, Aunt Nail—and sometimes lovingly referred to as Beaver. That was my name for her most of the time, for obvious reasons. She was always getting into “good trouble,” just like the late civil rights leader John Lewis used to say.

One of my fondest memories of her is styling wigs at the Wynwood Shopping Center. People would bring her their old, worn wigs, and she would bring them back to life again. She had the patience of Job and the most caring hands.

People often criticized her—for allowing, including me, mentally challenged individuals into her home and caring for them. But Ms. Beverly treated everyone with respect, kindness, and love. She understood their sickness and never judged them. They were all welcome, no matter how they acted out—people whose families had given up on them or who were homeless. Ms. Beverly made a place for them, even if it meant giving up her own bed.

That’s who Beverly was: stubborn, willing, kind, and overflowing with love.
The world was a better place for the 69 years she was here.

Even though we hardly agreed on anything—well, let’s face it, nothing—I will miss her dearly. I will miss hearing her call me “Rach.” when she was getting  me in " Good trouble". 
RIP Bev may your spirit live on forever.  Love ❤️  you Bev

 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

The Cousin who never had a negative thing to say about another. The Cousin who countered negative comments with positive comments. The Cousin who viewed every negative as a stepping stone up the ladder of Service to all mankind. The Cousin who could make you out of control laugh at her eyesight issues. The Cousin who knew beyond a shadow of any doubt; that if God said it; that settled it. The Cousin who could turn your midnights into bright sunny days. The Cousin whose light will not be dimmed; but will shine brightly in each of us left behind. Cousin Bev; we love you🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
