Bill Woodard, 80, of Dallas passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, January, 15, 2016, with friends and family at his side. He will always be remembered as a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew and loved him.
Bill was born in Maypearl, Texas, on December 4, 1935, to J. O. and Edith Dawson Woodard. He was married 42 years to his devoted wife and companion, Kay Armstrong of Lubbock, Texas. He is survived by Kay, his son Chuck Woodard and wife Marilyn of Carrollton, TX; daughter Deborah Kerbow of Austin, TX, grandchildren Meredith Woodard Dowdy, Ashley Woodard Tanner, Brandon Kerbow, Michael Kerbow, Wimberley Kerbow, Justin Woodard, Kaid Woodard. His surviving great grandchildren are Addison and Bronson Dowdy and Cody and Greyson Tanner. He was preceded in death by his parents J. O. and Edith, brother John O. Jr., sister Wanda Baker, and sons Billy G. Jr. and Kyle.
Bill was a graduate of North Dallas High School where he excelled in sports, including football and baseball. He was the long-time owner and manager of Ross Avenue Ignition Service, an auto car repair business, and an active member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas for 60 years.
Bill loved his family and friends and enjoyed frequently visiting and entertaining others. He always had the “silver polished.” He so enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe and could almost speak Italian in any restaurant. He loved listening and dancing to a variety of music, especially of the 50’s and could always “name that tune.” He was an avid tennis player and very loyal Dallas Cowboy fan. Bill’s sense of humor was off the charts and people encouraged him to “retell the joke about…”
Thank you, Bill, for your faith in God, your loving and generous spirit, and your undying devotion to our family. You made a difference in the lives of all who knew you. We can’t wait to see you again.
