Birdie Mae Patterson Greggs was born on May 13, 1921 and passed away on May 19, 2019. She recently celebrated the glory years of her 98th birthday.
She met and married the love of her life L.G. Greggs and celebrated 56 years of marriage. Even though L. G. had passed, she always made him a part of her conversation and would routinely take flowers to his graveside until her health would not permit her to do so.
Birdie attended Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, Texas and worked as a housekeeper in the Highland Park area for many years. She united with the North Park C. M. E. Church in 1958 where she served in several capacities. She was a faithful member of the stewardess board where she took pride in washing and preparing the communion cloths each month. No one could make those cloths as white and starched like Birdie. She loved her church and would often walk on Sunday mornings to attend service.
She also loved working in her yard and would have one of the most clean and manicured lawns on Lockheed Street. Everyone knew not to mess with Birdie and her yard!
Even though Birdie often claimed she did not have family, she was loved much by her friends, church family, neighborhood family, medical care team and her banking community.
Birdie shared a special love for Leenette Pierce, Marilyn Williams, Annie Butcher, Kelly Reed, and Ivy Johnson along with many others. She will be forever remembered for her friendship and generosity toward others.
