A memorial service and reception will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 3rd at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, Texas.
Brenda was born in Austin, Texas on November 25, 1947, to Floyd Dale Baker and Geraldine Gaines Baker. She grew up an avid reader and graduated from the University of Austin with a sociology degree. There she met her future husband, Otis Joe Magee, and they had two sons, Otis Brian Magee and Patrick Joseph Magee.
Brenda lived a life full of passions. Ever the history buff, Brenda spent years with Texana, her Texas history group. She spent many a weekend dressing in period attire and teaching students how to sew and churn butter. If you ever drove behind her car, you would see all of her HAM radio stickers on the back window. Whether it was volunteering at the Turkey Trot or having a fun movie night, Brenda loved her amateur radio group. She also adored anything airplanes and space. In fact, she was a pilot herself, performing her first solo flight April 5th, 1977.
She had many groups and clubs, but few as long lasting and close as the Joshua. Many readers find themselves drawn to certain genres, and science fiction was her genre of choice. It is no surprise that she found an adopted family with like-minded, science fiction people. For decades, Brenda hosted dinners, Christmases, and New Year’s parties for the Joshua at her house.
More than anything else, Brenda loved being a mother. Her sons meant the world to her, and her influence was unmistakable. Patrick and Brian shared her love of science fiction, reading, and airplanes. Brian became a professional pilot and flies for Southwest Airlines.
Brenda was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Magee, her parents, Dale Baker and Geraldine Baker, and her brother, Joe Newton Baker. She is survived by her brother, Billy Dale Baker, her son, Brian Magee, her daughter-in-law, Michelle Magee, and her beloved grandson, Aiden Patrick Magee.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance in her memory. Brenda adored cats, and this rescue was close to her heart.
