Missing you, Brie. Met folks who lived in your neighborhood (Roundrock, a few doors down). They said wonderful things about your mom, and how saddened they were when she passed. Made me think of the times we hung at your house, where the front door was always unlocked and a quick jaunt up the stairs and to the left led to countless hours of good conversations. Miss those days. And all the conversations since. Peace to you, my friend.

Hey Brie, it's Karyn, Alistaire's Friend. I only got to speak with you once. You told me to take care of him and I did, and I always will. I remember that phone call on March 30th. It was the afternoon, it was one of the first days I'd noticed the sun was up longer. It was so much like today. I was here to take care of him. He was where we could easily be together, a short bus ride away. You held on with incredible strength for so long, and your light will always be felt.

Brie, I found an old photo-insert for a wallet, and there was a small piece of paper with your drawing of yourself.  On the back, you wrote, "Stay cute and sweet.  I love you - good luck next year! Brie."  I laughed so hard, remembering the first time I found that "picture" of you amongst others.  You still make me smile, even through the tears.  I love you, friend. Gretchen

Brie, it's me. It's Alistaire. I'm 23. I graduated college and won the 2014 Fiction Thesis Award. All those stories I stayed up all night to share with you helped me find a place in this world. I still keep your French dictionary by my bedside-- the one where you doodled mohawks onto the helmets of the policemen on the cover. You are my best friend and you mean the world and the sky and the breath in my lungs to me. You are galaxies of stars and a soft blue glow that shines on my life. I will never let you fade. My best friend.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Brie. I had the honor of sharing her life when I was a counselor at Friendship House in Kansas City. She was a woman of great talent, a musician, witty, compassionate, and shared such grace.  My prayers go out to the universe to all those that she shared her life with.  Go in peace dear woman. I hadn't talked to Brie in years but had the pleasure of getting to know her in KC.  I was just listening to Annie Lennox, Medusa.  It was Brie who lent me that CD years ago. I just heard of Brie's passing last night at our University of Dallas Class of 1992 Reunion. To the O'Neill and Lucas families, I'm so sorry for your loss. I still remember her humor and amazing mind and am so pleased to read of her accomplishments as an adult. I know she must have been a stellar nurse.

To Brie's Husband and entire Family: My husband and I wish to express our deepest sorrow for Brie's untimely passing. We worked with Brie at North Kansas City Hospital. She was an outstanding nurse and co-worker. Her work ethic was like no other and she practiced with high standards. She was caring, compassionate and calm, not to mention, a blast to work with! We are still so very sad and lost over you leaving us. Even though we  rejoice in your life, it is still difficult to accept you have gone on to your better place...and we are left without you. There are so many who dearly love you. It is impossible to express how much we will miss you. We always looked so forward to knowing you were coming to visit. There was one thing we could always count on...you brightening the lives of everyone you came in contact with, and we were thrilled and honored to have had our time with you. How we will miss you dear, but never, ever forget you sweet Brie.

Brie was one of the grandest people I've ever known or likely ever will.  We first met as freshman in High School and bonded almost instantly.

I can't imagine surviving adolescence without Brie.  Her brilliance never faltered.  Her intelligence was matched only by her creativity.  She grew to be the most practical person I knew, yet she remained the funniest.  Only Brie could move from Dallas to Kansas City and become friends with drag queens while becoming ever more conservative.  Even so, she was the one to first tell me about the Daily Show with Jon Stewart; that was Brie – clever humor trumps politics!

Brie was a wonderful cartoonist and pianist.  As an adult, she took on the violin, although sometimes it was a fiddle.  She even created several paintings which are on display at my home and at my mother's.

She was family.  I know she spent holidays with her own family, but somehow she managed to be at every holiday meal at my house.  In college, I could call home and find her there hanging out with my Mom and visiting the dogs.  My grandparents in Buffalo always asked about her – when they visited, they threatened to sneak her into their bags and take her home with them.  

Brie was beautiful and poised.  No one would ever guess at the hilarity she could cause among the rest of us with a whispered word or two at an “inappropriate” moment.  She must have learned the trick attending mass with her sisters.

One of the most important things Brie taught me was to hang a spoon from my nose.  Not long ago, I met up with my eleven-year-old cousin after about 8 years.  He was most impressed that I had taught his Dad the spoon-on-the-nose trick.  Brie was bringing people together from thousands of miles away, without even knowing it.

Like many of us, Brie was not without her demons. In her early twenties, Brie went through some difficult times before finding her place in the world.  Her Mom and I had some furious discussions when her decisions nearly ripped out our hearts.  But she pulled her life together in a spectacular way and completed nursing school in Kansas City.  It was no surprise that her fellow students chose her to give the commencement address.  Needless to say, it was both hilarious and touching.  

Brie loved her family deeply, and with an uncommon degree of loyalty.  I wasn't sure it was possible, but Brie met Todd and finally fell in love with a man even her family and friends considered worthy!  Brie loved Todd and would truly regret the pain her death has caused him and the rest of her family.

One of the reasons people loved Brie so much was that she made you feel like family.  Brie's capacity for love and her generosity astound me even today – she always made it seem effortless, even when she was suffering inside.

Brie told me a few times that she envied her mother's faith.  Just now, I have faith that Brie is in a place where she no longer has to make lists to stay organized, she can jump on the trampoline with Bob and no ankle pain, Rachmaninoff writes piano concertos just for her, and her back swing is perfect.

To Todd & Jill, Mr. O'Neill, Erin & Jesse, Megan & Murray, Molly & Alan, Tara, all of her nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Patch (or Aunt Peach for some), and of course, Cliff and Mr. Littles – please accept my deepest sympathies.  I'll experience only a tiny portion of your loss, but that is nearly too much!  Right now, it feels like the world is diminished without Brie's presence, but the truth is it would not be half as great if she had never been.

Goodbye, Brie.  I will always love you!

I am at a loss as to what to say about how much Brie meant to me  and especially Gretchen. She was a part of our family and she brought so much joy, laughter and fun whenever she was with us.  I remember "spoons"" at the dining room table, hot dog rolls,decorating the christmas tree (along with the rest of the girls), and all the fantastic art work she gave to me.  She was a talented girl and I will miss her  alot , but I  still have the memories of all that she meant to us. My prayers are with Brie's family & close friends, and for the repose of her soul.  At Ursuline, I was always struck by Brie's joie de vivre, and I am so sorry to hear of her passing.

Brie was a childhood friend from elementary school days and someone I've thought of often over the years -- everytime I think of her I hear her infectious laugh and great smile..deepest sympathies to all her family and friends.

Although I haven't seen Brie since our days at Ursuline, I can still vividly recall how she nearly seemed to glow- so full of creativity, honesty and openness.  I can only begin to imagine how much she touched others lives over the years.

Oh Brie! What a dear heart you had. You were so unassuming and tender; I can't imagine a cross word from you. Memories of playing softball with you are so funny. Brie was such a wonderful person - compassionate, understanding, and quick with a smile, a laugh, or whatever else her friends needed. My mind has been flooded with memories and reminders of the gifts she gave me over time. One of my favorite memories was of Brie teaching me to snow ski. In ever Brie-style, we didn't start on a bunny slope; nope, she headed me straight up to a blue and then helped me work my way down with a perfect mix of her patience, encouragement, pushing, confidence in my abilities (I had slim to none on the ski lift!), and, of course, infectious laughter. I will always be grateful to Brie for how she influenced my life and for blessing me with her friendship. Erin, Megan, Molly, Tara, Dan, and Todd - may the warmth of your memories and the love of your friends and family bring you comfort and peace.

A friend today said, "We would not be who we are without Brie." Truer words could not have been spoken. 

Brie's friendship made me a stronger and better person for having known her.  Her wit, creativity, intelligence, humor, big heart and spirit will be missed beyond words.
