Carla was born in Seminole, Texas August 4, 1945 to parents Robbie and Vera Follis. They moved to Hobbs, New Mexico 3 months later. Her mother would take her in baby carriage for walks. The neighborhood children would often look in the carriage at baby Carla. A 7 year old name Jerry McPeters was one of those children. She was the only girl of four children and loved the attention she received from her brothers. She attended and graduated school in Hobbs. She was president of Sub Debs and runner up in Miss Hobbs beauty pageant. She attended Eastern New Mexico University in 1963. Carla met her future husband, Jerry McPeters, in September of 1963. They fell in love immediately and were married on Thanksgiving Day that same year. They were by each other’s side and happily married 52 years. They moved to Dallas in 1964 and except for a brief stay in Kansas City, MO., Dallas was where they made their home. One of the many joys in Carla’s life were her two children, Jeff McPeters and Angie Worthen.
Together, in 1968, they founded Group & Pension Administrators, Inc., GPA. Carla did payroll, purchasing, and whatever necessary to make GPA successful. Due in large part to Carla’s stewardship, GPA continues on as a successful family business. Carla was involved in many endeavors, but her main pleasure was being a mother and raising her children. She was loved by her children and their friends alike. All the neighborhood kids wanted to be close Carla. There are many wonderful stories of her interaction with them all. She was deeply loved and a true inspiration to all who knew her.
Carla was an avid and talented painter, spending hours in her studios in both Dallas and Ruidoso, NM. Her works of art hang in numerous homes and are treasured by their owners. She also had a love for golf. She spent many days at Northwood Country Club and truly enjoyed playing and being with her many friends.
She was a loving person who spoke her mind but always with kindness and sincerity. She inspired others with her infectious spirit for life, causing all who met her to want to be like her. She was most definitely "one of a kind” and everyone was better for having known her. Carla's legacy will always be treasured within us all. She will be remembered for integrity, morality, generosity, and the love and kindness she had for everyone.
Carla was proudest of being a mother and being "MiMi" the grandmother to her six grandchildren. Oh, how she loved them all. She could not do enough for them and spoiled each and every one of them by giving her time, talent and treasures to them all. Anything they wanted was all right with MiMi. Carla’s imprint on her grandchildren is punctuated by her moral and gracious principals. Carla was truly one of God’s special children and we know her bright light is shining now in heaven.
Carla leaves her husband; Jerry McPeters and her children; Jeff McPeters and wife Joni, daughter Angie Worthen and husband Phillip. Carla's most loved grandchildren, Jake and Jaclyn McPeters, David, Ali, Maddie and Caroline Worthen; her brother Dana Follis and his son Casey.
Preceding her in death are her brothers Randy and Gerald Follis.
A celebration of Carla’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 4:00 P.M. at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas, Texas.
