It is with great sorrow and remorse to announce the passing of Carol Alexander Vesey on January 31st, 2022. She had been fighting heart problems for several years and was under hospice care. Her death was very serene and without pain.
Carol was born in Dallas on October 1st, 1939, and lived here most of her life. She was active and successful in both the business and nonprofit communities. She owned and operated an industrial supply distributorship and capital leasing equipment company. Upon its sale, Carol became a multi-talented, highly successful business consultant who applied a fresh, no-nonsense approach to organizing people to solve problems and create cost-effective environments. In 1983, she received the District Women in Business Advocate of the Year award from the Small Business Administration.
She was also a professional non-profit consultant who specialized in multiple aspects of this arena, particularly with writing grants, strategic planning, fundraising and leadership. She was titled the “Hub of the Wheel” to honor her dynamic approaches for non-profits. Carol was a Leadership Dallas alumnae member for her civic work and service on several boards. She was President of the Women’s Council of Dallas County, as well as co-chair of their 1998 benefit. She served on the boards of United Way and Jefferies Street Learning Center. As President, she led the Executive Women of Dallas, The Dallas Summit and Turtle Creek Manor, an aftercare facility on Routh St. for dually diagnosed indigent people. As Development Chair for the Dallas Women’s Foundation, Carol spearheaded raising their first 1 million dollars for their endowment. Over her lifetime, she served on the boards of The Family Place, LIFT, Greater Dallas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, HOPE and City of Dallas Urban Rehabilitation Standards. She was a consultant for the Center for Nonprofit management. Carol was a member of the Advisory Council for the School of General Studies at the University of Texas, the Advisory Board of Turtle Creek Manor, Mi Escuelita Preschool and the YWCA Women’s Resource Center.
Carol had a great love for life, particularly in the areas of her family, music and Kerry Blue Terriers. She attended Hockaday under the tutelage of their music director. Subsequently, she graduated from Highland Park High in 1957, then attended SMU. Due to her lineage, Carol was a member of DAR, her ancestor having served with General Harry “Lighthorse” Lee. She was a member by heritage to “The Ancient and Honorable Society” for her family having fought in the French and Indian War.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 37 years, John C. Vesey; her son, Kevin Duncan and his wife, Jennifer; grandson, Joshua Duncan and his wife, Laney; grandson, Caleb Duncan and his wife, Baleigh; and stepson, Dr. Alex Vesey.
