

Carolyn Saunders, born April 15, 1929 in Dallas, Texas, died September 10,2012. She was the daughter of Lucille Harding and Dan Ferguson. Her mother died when she was three years of age in an auto accident on the way to the 1932 Worlds Fair. Her father later married Ten Tower, who for all practical purposes, raised her. She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, K. Stanley Saunders. She is survived by her sister Ann Ferguson Reese (Phoenix), three children, Richard Saunders ( Dallas), Keith Saunders ( Dallas), Lisa Saunders Kaufman (Santa Fe, NM) and five grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Dallas, she graduated from North Dallas High School in 1945 and later received her BA from Duke University. She was awarded a fellowship for graduate study receiving a MA from Southern Methodist University and PhD from North Texas State University. Her professional career spanned 20 years in the field of higher education. She was a teacher of Sociology, Psychology and Continuing Education for physicians as well as an administrator of Continuing Medical Education at Baylor Medical Center. Her professional organizations included: The Texas Society of Hospital Education and Alpha Kappa Delta. Carolyn was a 50 year member of the First Unitarian Church of Dallas. She was an avid supporter of that organization's many activities in the community. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of Dallas Shared Ministries, The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and the Dallas Museum of Art. A memorial service will be held by her family at 10:30AM on October 13, 2012 at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas located at 4015 Normandy.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Endowment and Memorial Gift Fund at The First Unitarian Church of Dallas.
