

Carolyn Jo Sanders, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on August 17th, 2024, at the age of 88, after a brief battle with acute myeloid leukemia and a long, courageous struggle with dementia.
Born on June 15th, 1936, to J.B. (Jess) and Adeline Hogan, Carolyn’s life was a testament to love, resilience, service, and faith. Her journey began in Dallas, where she and her beloved husband, Bobby Lee Sanders, built a life full of joy and devotion. They married on June 13th, 1953, and together they raised three wonderful children: Mark, Keith, and Carol.
Carolyn’s early years were devoted to nurturing her family, and later, she embraced the workforce with pride, joining JCPenney in the 1970s and continuing until her retirement. In their later years, Carolyn and Bobby found new adventures in East Texas, where they enjoyed country living and served their faith at their Episcopal church.
Carolyn’s life was rich with passions. She was known for her beautiful penmanship, her deep love for animals, card games, and sewing. Her vibrant, boisterous singing voice, her love of Christmas, and her unwavering ability to express her opinions made her presence truly unforgettable. Her passionate spirit was evident in everything she did, from the joy she took in singing to the care she extended to those around her.
Even in the face of dementia, Carolyn’s strength and humor inspired all who knew her. Surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments, she exemplified the deep connections she cherished throughout her life.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Lee Sanders, her father and step-mother J.B. (Jess) and Mary Hogan, step-father and mother, Leo and Adelaine Shockley, and her brother James Shockley.
She is survived by her brother Robert Shockley, her admired children Mark Sanders, Keith Sanders, and Carol Brittingham, and her treasured grandchildren Tina Brumbelow, Aaron Sanders, Angela Banuelas, Amanda High, Bobby Jo Sanders, Erica Sanders, Robert Sanders, Tyler Brittingham, and Summer Sanders along with many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Carolyn’s life will be honored with a service at 10:00 AM on August 30th, 2024, at Grove Hill Funeral Home, located at 3920 Samuel Blvd. Dallas, TX. Following the service, we will proceed to a graveside ceremony for the interment of her ashes.
