
Charles Theodore Brown, 80, of Dallas, TX died Friday, December 26, 2014 at Dallas Texas Health Resources hospital. Born at home in Port Arthur, Texas, he was the son of Hugh Charles Brown and wife, Lonzora Raby Brown, both of which predeceased him. He was raised in Port Arthur, Texas and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1952. A graduate of Lamar University (formerly Lamar Tech College), he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Afterwards, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and studied Russian at the language school in Monterrey, CA where he was stationed prior to being sent to Intelligence School in Boston, MA.
After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Charles moved to Dallas, TX where he lived until his death. Charles started his career in insurance with the Continental Insurance Companies and was awarded a certificate of merit in 1965. As a part of his career in insurance, he worked with PMA (Planned Marketing Associates) in Dallas where he served as a Vice President in the area of Operations. Eventually, he worked at the Dallas World Trade Center in several showrooms as a sales representative until his retirement. Charlie, as he was affectionately called by his friends, was a devote Christian and was active with his church, Prestoncrest Church of Christ, where he was a member for 26 years. While at Prestoncrest, he taught adult Sunday school. Charles had a dry sense of humor, was an excellent public speaker, a fabulous chef and loved entertaining. He was a wonderful son, brother; uncle and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his three siblings and their families which include his brother, Jerry Hugh Brown, and wife, Mary, of Gold Hill, Oregon; his brother, Howell Raby Brown, and wife, E’Lane, of Port Arthur, TX; and sister, Carolyn Brown Richardson, of Dallas, TX. In addition, he is survived by three nieces and three nephews which include: Lisa Richardson Amsberry, of Dallas, TX and husband, Rick; Alice Brown Harrell, of San Antonio, TX and husband, William and their two sons; Marilyn Brown Rogers, of California, and husband, Jim and their two daughters; Dr. Monte Brown, of Chapel Hill, NC, and wife, Jeanie and their two sons; Mark Brown, of California, and Lawrence Austin Brown, of Port Arthur, TX.
