

Charles was born in Mt. Vernon, Texas on May 9, 1954 to Theotha Aurelius Dunlap and Lucille Dunlap (Mitchell). He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and continued to receive Vocational training at Henderson Heavy Equipment School and then additional training in the US Marine Corp, US Army where he was a member of the Special Forces and Texas Army National Guard. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Charles married Cecile Louise Labega in an intimate ceremony in Maui, Hawaii, on October 12, 2003. They were married for 20 years, during which time they travelled and took cruises as often as possible.
Charles had a deep respect for those who labored for a living. He enjoyed working outdoors, and working with his hands. In addition to being a soldier, he work for Trinity Industries, Dallas Auto Auction, TXU Energy, and in security as a PPO (Personal Protection Officer). During which time he worked on the estate of the late T. Boone Pickens and rubbed shoulder with Jerry Jones, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki and the like while working protection at Club Nobu in the Crescent Hotel.
In his own words, Charles would say: I'm not a football fan; I'm a COWBOYS fan. He went to San Antonio one year just to watch the BOYS practice.
Charles is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Bonnie Ruth Powell, and brother "Sonny". He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Alicia Green Dunlap, with whom he had a loving 10 year marriage.
There are many left to love and cherish his memory. Charles is survived by his wife and daughter: Cecile Labega Dunlap and Taishany Marie Dunlap. He is also survived by his foster son, Jatniel Vazquez Aguayo. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Mary Layinu, Tom Dunlap and wife Mabel, and Rebecca Pope. Charles is also survived by a wealth of nieces, great nephew and great great nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered and missed by aunts, cousins, extended family and friends.
A visitation for Charles will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, Texas 75220. After cremation he will be laid to rest at Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211.
