

Charles Thomas May Jr, known as Tom, born to Charles Thomas May and Mary Lynn Sheely May, July 22, 1931 in Fort Worth Texas, passed away September 27, 2025 in Dallas Texas. Tom graduated from Arlington Heights high school Ft. Worth, TX in 1948. There he played football with the Yellowjackets winning the 1948 state championship. In 1952 he graduated from the University of Texas with a business degree and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity where he served as house manager.
After graduation, Tom served as a Navy Officer on a destroyer during the Korean War. Tom married Eleanor Mae Sykes of Sharron, Massachusetts on May 31, 1959. This year they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Tom was interested in American Impressionism and in 1961 with his first purchase started his collection of American art which continued as a lifelong passion. He served on The acquisition committee of the Dallas Museum of Art and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Dallas Symphony.
Tom started selling securities while at the University and opened May Financial Corporation in 1968 and was a past president of the Dallas Security Dealers Association. He was previously on the board of Schramsberg winery in Napa Valley, a beloved interest of more than 35 years. Tom was a member of Brook Hollow Golf Club, The Park Cities Club and a former member of the Bohemian Club of San Francisco, California. He served as a past president of the Friends of Human Nutrition at UTSW and previously served on the boards of St. Michaels School in Dallas, Foxcroft School in Middleburg Virginia, and the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen Texas. Tom thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated his involvement in the Hundley-Poole thursday morning men's bible study group at Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Eleanor, son Sterling, daughter Laura, and grandsons Thomas, Sterling Jr., Warren, and sister Carole Baker of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his son Christopher Thomas May.
He will always be remembered as a well dressed genteel gentleman who was explicitly honest, hard working and a proud patriot.
In Lieu. of flowers, donations may be made to the Dallas Museum of Art or the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
A memorial service for Charles will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225.
