

Mr. Pipes is survived by his wife - Betty Wood Pipes; four children - Charles R. Pipes, John F. Pipes, James R. Pipes, and Anna Pipes Carlyle; daughter-in-law - Carolyn Pipes; son-in-law - Dan Carlyle, all of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren - Charles R. Pipes Jr., Katie (Dominic) Zito, and Sarah (Cody) Lopez; great-grandson Maddox Zito. His father – John Floyd Pipes and mother – Dora Mangan Pipes of Dallas, Texas preceded him in death.
Proud to be an Okie, Charles was born on 12 January 1927 in Oklahoma City. He was raised in Carnegie, Oklahoma, prior to entering the U.S. Army on 3 April 1945. When World World II ended, Charles was stationed at Fort Ord, California. Mr. Pipes was honorably discharged on 8 May 1946 as a private first class. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal; American Campaign Medal; and Good Conduct Medal.
Charles graduated from Southern Methodist University where he met Betty, his future wife. He earned MBA and BBA degrees along with post-graduate business licenses and certifications. Mr. Pipes held executive and managerial accounting/auditing positions with Western Union and Texas Utilities. Retired from both companies after forty years, Charles S. and Betty helped their eldest son, Charles R., establish a veterinarian practice – Country Brook Animal Hospital in Garland, Texas. With seasoned business experience and determination, the couple was jointly unwavering towards the success of their family business up to Charles’ death.
A loving father, husband, and partner, Charles was married to Betty for 64 years. He was a devoted Christian man - committed to his church family and active in its leadership. Mr. Pipes’ friends and family remember him as a generous, kind, and gentle man, with a dry wit and heart-warming smile. His goodness, integrity, and service to others are profoundly admired and missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service for Mr. Pipes is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, 2 September 2015, at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Pastor Paul Brown will officiate. All are welcome to attend and honor Charles’ life. He will be laid to rest at Sparkman-Hillcrest in Dallas, Texas in a private ceremony following.
