

Chris was born on September 6, 1936, in Muenster, Texas to parents, Joseph and Christina (Hencheid) Hesse. Her father was a carpenter and a farmer, so she grew up in the country. Her mother was a housewife. Chris attended Sacred Heart school as a child and had vivid memories of her First Confession and First Communion as well as her Solemn Communion and Sacrament of Confirmation. She attended Sacred Heart High and graduated in May 1954.
Later in life, she worked a clerical job at Wilde Chevrolet until moving to the Our Lady of Victory school for girls in September 1954. On Sunday, February 13, 1955, Chris entered the Order of the Sisters of Saint Mary of Namur as a postulant. On August 15, 1955, she received her black habit and white veil. She chose the name Sister Christina in honor of her mother. On August 15, 1957, she received her black veil and her assignment to teach second grade in Denison, TX.
Edna attended the University of Dallas and received her B.A. Degree in 1959. She made her final vows and became Sister Christina. Sister taught elementary school for twelve years in different cities in Texas and out of state. Then in January 1970 Edna left the convent, took on a job in the secretarial field.
A mutual friend introduced Chris to Hylton Sanders, Jr ("Sandy") and they were married on January 9, 1993. The following year, Sandy had a massive stroke and Chris cared for him faithfully until his death on January 4, 2002.
Chris was preceded in death by her husband, HB Sanders, Jr. and stepson Richard (Selina).
She is survived by two stepchildren, Hylton B Sanders III (wife Sandra) and Cheryl Carter (husband Steve); ten grandchildren, Carlton (Caitlin) Alexander, Shelby (Brian) Presser, Amy (JJ) Tarno, Samantha (Brandon) Germanos, Leslie Whorton, Morgan Cook, Stuart (Jessica) Murphy, Timothy Sanders, Brittany (Eric) Johnson and Makki (Cade) Torres; and 18 great grandchildren.
A graveside service for Chris will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home & Hillcrest Mausoleum & Memorial Park, 7405 W Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225. There will also be a memorial mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 714 N Main St, Muenster, Texas on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
