Curtis Rives Hougland passed away on February 24, 2011. He was the kindest man, a rare constant in the lives of everyone he met. He was a generous giver, who gave without any expectation of return or recognition. Humble and strong, Curt was the rock we stood by. And if wisdom indeed comes from what you don’t say, rather that what you do say, he was the wisest of men. Curt grew up in Kansas, played football at the University of Colorado, and graduated from the University of Southern California, after serving in the Navy. He met the love of his wife, Sylvia, at Yellowstone National Park. In July they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family, Kim, Bill, Madeline and Sam; Curtis Jr, Debra and Oliver; and friends from Kansas to New York City to Los Angeles to Kansas City to The Berkshires to Dallas. He had a career in manufacturing, becoming the owner of UniVogue, a successful company in Dallas that he sold in 2004. He was an avid golfer, traveler, and sailor. He believed in justice, campaigned for Barack Obama in Colorado, and understood that all of us who benefit from society must give back. Our loss is great. Our gain from knowing him is far, far greater. The Memorial Service is Thursday, March 3 at Noon at Greenland Hills Methodist Church, 5835 Penrose Avenue, Dallas, TX 75206.
