Beloved wife and devoted mother Cynthia Abbey Campbell, 82, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. Cindy was born on October 19, 1942, to Nancy and Arthur Abbey. She dedicated her life to her family and her kindness, intelligence, and spirit of adventure made an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Cindy attended college at SUNY Potsdam, where she fell in love with a Clarkson hockey player named Robert Ayerst Campbell of Lachute, Quebec, Canada. Cindy and Bob embarked on a remarkable sixty-two year marriage that spanned Potsdam, New York; Boulder, Colorado; Rochester, New York; Kobe, Japan; Tokyo, Japan; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Greenwich, Connecticut; Hong Kong, China; Grantham, New Hampshire; and Dallas, Texas.
A loyal friend, avid reader, keen sportswoman, ruthless card player, and acute observer of current events and world affairs, Cindy shepherded her family through countless moves and inspired her husband and children to live life to its fullest and treat others with respect and grace. No matter the location, she found time to build lifelong friendships, cultivate a beautiful garden, pursue her interests in local art, food, and culture, and contribute her talents to many worthy causes. Through it all, Cindy selflessly put others before herself, especially the children and grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Cindy is survived by her husband Bob; her children, Colin (Abby) Campbell, David (Tamara) Campbell, and Sarah Campbell Beer; her grandchildren, John Henry Campbell, Carolina Reid Campbell, Sarah Juliette Campbell, Colin Robert Campbell, Charles Abbey Campbell, and Susanna Josephine Campbell; and her sister, Rebecca Abbey (Ray) Hurysz.
A celebration of Cindy's life will be held later this year in Dallas, Texas, and in Lachute, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to YMCA Camp Cory (campcory.org) or NPR (npr.org). Cindy will be deeply missed, but her light and spirit will shine on in the hearts of her family and friends across the globe.
